Is Italian children’s behaviour different from the behaviour of English, American and Canadian children? - Yes. Italian children do not like getting dirty. They will not come home with grass stains on their pants. They will not take their shoes off and walk around on the grass barefoot on a hot summer day. You will find it hard to get them to sit on the grass to begin with! This is because most of the children come from urban areas and are not familiar with nature. Furthermore, the low birthrate in Italy means that children are often spoiled. Still, you will easily win them over…and they will love you!
Why do I need to respect Italian social behaviour while at camp ? - Simply because you are operating in a different social system! Still, ACLE warmly welcomes changes introduced to the teaching system as long as they do not frighten or offend Italian adults.
Is Italian cultural and social behaviour different from English/American culture ? - Yes, very often. You will be working in a culture with its own distinct way of doing things. You will notice differences, for example, in manners, eating and drinking habits, and dress.
